Winter is here and the days are the shortest during this month, there shouldn't be much left to do.

Jobs For December

  • Check your winter protection is secure
  • Check greenhouse heaters are working
  • Insulate outdoor taps and check bird baths are not frozen
  • Prune over grown apples trees
  • Prune acers, birches and vines before Christmas to avoid bleeding
  • Deciduous trees and shrubs can still be planted and transplanted
  • Take hardwood cuttings
  • Geum - Cut back
  • Hellebores - can plant any time of the year if available in garden centres
  • Pond Plants - Pysostegia virginiana - ensure plant is submerged for winter
  • Fatsia japonica will start to fruit
  • Reduce watering of houseplants
